Justice for Specialist Ronald E. Dreier U.S. Army

 

Our family wanted justice for my brother twenty two years old, Specialist Ronald E. Dreier of the U.S. Army. He was killed in an off duty accident at Solo Point Fort Lewis May 2, 1990. The U.S. District Court dismissed our suite claimed it was barred by the Feres Doctrine. Whoever, Mr. Carlson with his expertise, dedication and countless efforts for my brother case was relentless. Mr. Carlson won a reversal on appeal where he persuaded the Appellate Court to apply “activities-Based” analysis to Feres cases now broadening access to civil justice for service members throughout the United States Armed Forces. Mr. Carlson was instrumental in creating new law under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) Wrongful Death Dreier v. United States, 95 F.3d 1435 (9th Cir. 1996) commonly cited as “Controlling Authority.”  Due to Mr. Carlson’s continued dedication for justice towards my brother and our family, we have been able to help other military families to prevail with the legacy of my brother. Mr. Carlson’s recognized with posturing and tenacious attitude he could make change, in that commitment he was able to seize the opportunity to take this case all the way to the Supreme Court! He was committed to our case for over six years, that’s dedication!!!
